We Apologise for the Late Running of this Service

Dear Readers,

It is no secret amongst the community that people think this route has died a death. I wish to explain myself for my unacceptable lateness with which this is being put forward (again this is not a fault with the publishers, it lies entirely with me) and hope to offer a more human perspective as to why.

Since finishing university and starting back at work in full time 12+ hour day/night shifts, it's become something of out of the frying pan and into the oven so to speak; what little spare time I have had has come down to an agonising choice of "do I eat?" or "do I go to bed?" so to say that RW/TS 201x has taken a back seat is something of an understatement.

With my recent holiday and some well-worded reader comments, I have decided to give it one last push. If it breaks me and I cannot complete it then I'll walk down that lonely road of failure and disappointment wondering what might have been. Meanwhile I'd like to request that those of you who do still maintain a flying monkey's left one in the project, please keep the faith! August should be a good time for be to make considerable progress, despite this post coming well over a year since my last one. I don't know where the time has gone either but this is not a time for excuses, I have handled this badly in terms of honouring a community and publishing agreement and it's starting to cause stress again. Both in a good way, as in a good kick up the backside, but also in a bad way to such an extent that I've deliberately avoided the forums in fear of what the others might be saying.

Part of the problem when I do sit down to work on the route is that I am never 100% satisfied with what I've already done and I am conscious of the fact that the community (rightly so in my view) will take me to the cleaners about some of the work I've done in areas, despite them being at least on a par with some more recent (and older) popular route releases.

Below are some screens of the 465 in action as well as some very work in progress shots of other areas based around certain London stations.

If anyone's still reading this and would like a mention in the manual with a full copy of the route by donating items and creating scenery and landscapes, please do get in touch! I'm struggling with some areas which are in need of some custom-built objects which seem beyond me so far, so see this as a cry for help. Some of my creations are on show in my screenshots but all this detracts from the time I have at the drawing board so to speak, completing the route as it should have been, all those moons ago.

Many thanks for your time and (dis)countinued interest.

  1. Thanks for the update. I have been looking forward to the route coming out and have no intention of running out of patience no matter how long it might be. All I am able to do with the editor is create some scenariosand I know how frustrating that can be. I've just spent a week, five hours a day, just to get a 30 minute scenario to work the way I wanted it to and this was second choice. All I can do is offer verbal support and encourage you to plod on with something that you obviously had/have a passion for no matter how long it takes. If you are happy with something then that is it and it does not matter what other people say especially as they would not be able to do better. For every one who might complain there will be plenty more who will love what you produce. So keep the faith and keep in touch. All the best Gazzzam.

  2. Hi!
My first comment is - Don't let it get you down!
I'd love to see your project completed, even if Release 1 is not all you had hoped for - few things in life are... But, if it's causing you so much grief, then personally I'd encourage you to switch the computer off for a few weeks, months, years or decades. And get out into the real world - equally imperfect and just as frustrating but very refreshing - where life may be going on without you.
I'm very impressed that you've had the courage to go public with your life problems - now concentrate on solving them, not on pleasing us. We'll all get by without you, or indeed Railworks, surprisingly well without you; we'll welcome you back when, and if, your health and your heart allow.
Some - silly, selfish - people MAY moan if you don't complete this route soon, or ever. Wiser people, people worth listening to, will tell you that your first duty is to yourself. Personally, I would hate to play a 'perfect' Coalburn Trench while knowing that it had cost a young man his health, thus casting a shadow over the whole of the rest of his life.
    Take good care of yourself!
    John M

  3. Thanks for the update, its a shame some enthusiasts are not all that enthusiastic. Its understandable that you have commitments elsewhere, we all do. What one person says does not reflect the community. Don't let the 0.01% drag you down. You're doing a great route and I (among many others) look forward to seeing a very good route. I take my hat off to you sir.
